This has just become law today, enabling anyone to hold or detain (or similar) someone who has (or is suspected of I imagine) shoplifting, or whatever the case may be.
I feel for anyone who doesn’t fit the stereotypical “regular discerning shopper” image. Carrying a backpack, I have a friend who was searched regularly just because she didn’t “fit the bill”.
I understand the organisation which represents a particular group of retailers is concerned that this will just put their store owners in harms way. And I feel it is entirely justified to be concerned – that’s if anyone actually tries to apprehend or restrain someone at all. It seems from what I have gathered few shop owners would even try.
Being accosted – even if something has been taken illegally – it doesn’t bear thinking about. Encouraging violence, which essentially is what this does, it actually has a serious spiritual consequence, a new layer of “psychic disturbance” that Aotearoa New Zealand has never needed to worry about, until now.
Guns on police, that would be catastrophic for our country looking at it spiritually. But I digress.
Those who put this law into motion, which is now a disturbing reality, will have to accept the spiritual and karmic responsibility and accountability for this law that I imagine will take hold more and more as time goes on.
No doubt there will be media coverage when it all goes wrong.
At the very least there will be confusion and more fear than before, or is at all necessary.
A spiritual, and also a personal perspective, born from a time of spiritual contemplation, and insight that came from that.
